GCSE tuition

GCSE Chemistry tuition in London

Chemistry builds on ideas students meet early in the course: particles, bonding and what happens in a reaction. At Advanced Tuition in London, we make those foundations clear, then practise using them in equations, calculations and exam questions. GCSE classes have up to five students, and Chemistry forms part of Science on our Years 9–11 pathway.

Make the early ideas clear

If particles or bonding are unclear, later topics become harder to follow. We take time to explain the underlying idea, connect it to what students can observe and check their understanding. That gives reactions, properties and calculations something solid to build on.

How we teach GCSE Chemistry

Particles, structure and properties

We connect the arrangement of particles with a substance's properties. Students explain the link, so we can see whether they understand the reason behind an observation.

Reactions and chemical change

Students work through reactions using observations, equations and explanations together. We check each part and revisit the point where the chemistry becomes unclear.

Calculations and evidence

We teach students to read the quantities, keep track of units and explain their calculation. They practise checking whether an answer makes sense in the question.

Work through calculations with understanding

We break a calculation into steps the student can explain. What are we trying to find? Which quantities matter? Why does this method apply? Practice then helps them use the same reasoning when the wording or numbers change.

Prepare for a range of question styles

Chemistry papers ask students to move between explanations, equations, data and practical situations. We practise those changes throughout the course. Marked answers help students see where a missing detail, an incorrect term or a slip in the working has cost them a mark.

How Chemistry fits into the GCSE programme

Chemistry sits within the Science part of our weekend GCSE programme. The £100 session covers eight hours on Saturday or Sunday: four hours of Science, two of Maths and two of English. Students take the complete package, with Biology, Chemistry and Physics taught within Science.

The weekday programme offers around three hours focused on one subject, at £12.50 per hour or about £37.50 per session. Ask us how Chemistry support fits into the current Science timetable.

GCSE Chemistry FAQs

Weekend students join the complete English, Maths and Science programme. Weekday tuition offers subject flexibility. Tell us where your child needs Chemistry support and we will explain the Science classes available.

We teach Chemistry within the Science programme and cover all exam boards. Tell us whether your child takes Combined Science or separate Chemistry, along with their tier, so we can explain the appropriate class and support.

Yes. We work on the maths within the chemistry, including quantities, units and setting out a calculation. Seeing the student's working helps us find the exact step that needs attention.

We help students understand the chemistry behind practical questions, interpret results and explain observations. Speak to us about any hands-on practical arrangements; the page describes tuition and exam preparation.

Practice lets students check what they can do without the tutor beside them. Difficult attempts are useful too. Bring them back so the tutor can see where the method or idea became unclear.
