GCSE English tuition in London
Knowing a text and writing a strong answer about it are different skills. At Advanced Tuition in London, we help GCSE students read closely, organise their ideas and use evidence well. In classes of up to five, tutors can hear each student's thinking and give specific feedback on their writing. English forms part of our Years 9–11 programme alongside Maths and Science.
Support for Language and Literature
We teach English Language and Literature with attention to what each course asks students to do. That means reading carefully, understanding the question and building an answer with evidence. Tell us your child's exam board and set texts so we can match them to the right class.
How we develop reading and writing
Read with attention
We ask students what they notice in a passage, then work through why it matters. Language, structure and the writer's choices become things they can explain clearly in an answer.
Build a supported interpretation
A quotation needs a clear job to do. Students practise choosing useful evidence and explaining how it supports their point, with feedback on where the argument needs more detail.
Write with purpose
Students plan and write for the task in front of them. We work on how to order their ideas, make a point clearly and choose language that suits the audience.
Help good ideas reach the page
A student may explain a text confidently in conversation and then freeze when asked to write about it. We work through that step together: make the point, choose the evidence and explain the connection. Regular written practice and marking show students what is working and what to improve next.
Practise the writing exams require
Reading, planning and timed writing run through the programme. Students revisit the feedback on their work and try again, so they can see the difference a clearer argument or better-chosen quotation makes. The aim is an answer they understand and can develop independently.
How English fits into the GCSE programme
English is part of the complete weekend GCSE programme: eight hours on Saturday or Sunday, including two hours of English, two of Maths and four of Science. The session costs £100. Students study all three core areas, building skills that carry across their school timetable.
The weekday programme offers focused support in one subject for around three hours, at £12.50 per hour or about £37.50 per session. Ask us about the English classes and days available.
GCSE English FAQs
Yes, through the weekday programme, subject to class availability. Weekend students take the complete English, Maths and Science package. Get in touch and we will explain which option suits your child's needs.
Yes. English Language and Literature are both part of our teaching. Tell us your child's qualifications, exam boards and set texts so we can explain the class that fits their course.
Please send us the text titles when you enquire. Set texts differ between courses, so we need to check the specific provision rather than assume every class studies the same books.
Yes. We work on turning an idea into a clear point, choosing evidence and explaining what it shows. Written practice and specific feedback help students build that process into their own answers.
The tutor may set reading, preparation or written practice connected to the class. Students should bring questions and make use of feedback, so each session builds on the last.
